what's with the white spots?

so in the rare event that people (other than my family, friends, and foodies that i have met along the way) read this blog, i am trying to remain anonymous, along with anyone else that comes along for my food adventures. or maybe it's because i thought it was really funny putting those white dots over my face (and james')...when the odds are really low that people i don't know will follow this blog.

engineering a connoisseur: the basics of my blog

just so you all know, i am new to blogging and will probably make this a no frills operation.

if i go out to a restaurant, i will write about it (unless it wasn't even worth writing about). i don't have a rating system, i don't look for specific things, and i won't follow any format. actually, i am known for rambling (if that is a pet peeve of yours, this blog is probably not for you). i tried to carry a notebook, but that didn't quite work out since i forgot it most of the time. i feel that working off the memory is best. if it was something that i remembered, it is something worth writing about.

this blog will not only be about restaurants- i will also write about other things related to food. i might write about books i've read, food TV shows, my mom's awesome home cooking, hey, i might even write about my dog Bandit's food.

i plan to have guest bloggers, my fellow foodies if you will. they are mostly my work friends because i will be damned if i talk about work at work. but any other foodies out there that want to be a guest blogger, holla at your sista! stay tuned for "foodie features".

the sequence of my blog will have no rhyme or reason. i might write about "real time" stuff, but then i might write about something that happened months or even years ago. i might also bring up random stuff that will probably be weird that i happen to be thinking about at that particular moment, however, i am finding that a lot of blogs go on that basis.

what makes this blog different from any other food blog? nothing. but the only people who read this will be family and friends who i know are all foodies at heart. hey, i am filipino for one, and all we know how to do is eat (well, some other things too). my mom always used to say "tell me who your friends are and i will tell you who you are." if i am obsessed with eating, you can bet that my friends are too.

foodie "catch phrases" that you will see me use

"a sure thing" - places when you are starving and you really want something good to eat, and are, a sure thing. it doesn't necessarily have to be life changing, but it has those certain elements that satisfy just what you need.
"life changing"- exactly what it says. it must've been damn good if i say such a bold statement.
"repeat restaurant"- it was that good and i plan to go there over and over again. repeat restaurants will always be life changing, but it might not be a repeat only because of the financial crisis.
"we 1/2 and 1/2ed it"- i go out to dinner with my boyfriend james the most, and we usually both get a dish that we both want. all it means is that we split our dishes.
"food coma"- people who know me knows that i get this 9 times out of 10 after eating. its likely that i couldn't express or feel my true thoughts on a restaurant because i was in a food coma (aka non functioning because i over ate).

my random food for thought

favorite meal of the day: breakfast or brunch (if its a weekend). i can eat breakfast foods any time of the day. brunches are my all time favorite (saturday brunches exist but are harder to find than the sunday brunches).
food i eat at least once on the weekends (sometimes on the weekdays from the cart on 60th and columbus): a BEC (bacon, egg, and cheese)
i will never get sick of eating: pizza. i eat it at least once a week.
thoughts on "chain restaurants": i get called out all the time because i always say that i don't want to eat at them, yet two of my favorite places to eat at are IHOP and Cracker Barrel.
food road trip i wish i could do: bbq joints across the country. i LOVE bbq. i try to go to dinosaur bbq in NYC at least once a month.
strange food i've eaten: rabbit on easter (i thought it was chicken and i was in a foreign country), beef tongue (i liked it before i found out what it was)
my favorite mom made meals: beef brisket, arrozcaldo (chicken and rice soup thing), lemon chicken, egg rolls, ground beef with potatoes and raisins
home cooking other than mom: Italian! thank goodness for the grandma jennie growing up, and now lois who has taken the reigns! i rarely go out to eat italian because i have this in my life (unless it's pizza of course)
last restaurant that i loved that i haven't gotten a chance to go back to yet: norma's at le parker meridian hotel
deserts: cannolis, rainbow cookies, and any fruit filled pastry
food that i only eat once in a while because james doesn't eat it, but love: indian and vegetarian
foods that i have to be in the mood for to eat: pickles and olives
food related shirt i own: i heart burritos from my friend laura
at home foods that i can eat over and over again: turkey bacon and quesadillas
